Chúng ta thường sử dụng hardly trước các từ: any, anyone, anybody, anything và ever  trong mệnh đề phủ định.Nhưng hãy ghi nhớ điều này, Hardly không thể đứng trước: no, none, no one, nobody, nothing hay never:

    Không sử dụng: At first hardly no one came.

- There was hardly anything to eat.

- She lives in Scotland so we hardly ever see her now, but I like to keep in touch.

2. Cấu trúc hardly trong câu đảo ngữ có when. (Hardly … when)

Cấu trúc:

Hardly + had + S + PII/V-ed + when + S + PI/Ved: vừa mới … thì …

Ví dụ: Hardly had I just finished my exam when the time was over

          Hardly we had finished dinner when she came.
