I. Lí thuyết

1. Cấu trúc enough trong tiếng Anh

a) Cấu trúc enough dạng khẳng định

S + tobe + adj + enough + (for SB) + to V-inf

S + V + adv + enough + (for SB) + to V-inf

“Enough” được sử dụng sau tính từ, trạng từ kết hợp với nó là động từ nguyên thể có “to”.

Ex:

The weather is beautiful enough to have a hangout.

I am tall enough to take a book to the top of the shelf.

My hair is long enough to tie.

b) Cấu trúc enough với danh từ

S + V + enough + noun + (for SB) + to V-inf

Khi “enough” kết hợp với danh từ thì nó đứng trước danh từ.

Ex:

They don’t have enough time to fix his car.

This car doesn’t have enough seats for 7 people.

My family don’t have enough money to buy a car.

Ex:

She is very tall. She can become a model.

=> She is very tall enough to become a model. => Sai

=> She is tall enough to become a model. => Đúng

The weather is very bad. It can rain.

=> The weather is very bad enough to rain. => Sai

=> The weather is bad enough to rain. => Đúng

I’m very strong. I can bring this box.

=> I’m very strong enough to bring this box. => Sai

=> I’m strong enough to bring this box. => Đúng

b) Quy tắc 2: Khi sử dụng “enough” để nối câu, nếu chủ ngữ ở 2 câu giống nhau thì lược bỏ “for sb”.

Ex:

Helen is intelligent. Helen can become a teacher.

=> Helen is intelligent enough for her to become a teacher. => Sai

=> Helen is intelligent enough to become a teacher. => Đúng

I am vacant. I can go traveling right now.

=> I am vacant enough for me to go traveling right now. => Sai

=> I am vacant enough to go traveling right now. => Đúng

Tom is tall. He is the tallest in his school.

=> Tom is tall enough for him to be the tallest in his school. => Sai

=> Tom is tall enough to be the tallest in his school. => Đúng

She is short. She can’t take that book on the shelf.

=> She isn’t tall enough for her to take that book on the shelf. => Sai

=> She isn’t tall enough to take that book on the shelf. => Đúng

Lưu ý: Nếu chủ ngữ của câu sau có ý chung chung thì cũng có thể bỏ đi.

Ex: The weather is warm. We can live on it.

=> The weather is warm enough to live on.

Ex:

The water is quite cold. I can’t drink it.

=> The water isn’t warm enough for me to drink it. => Sai

=> The water isn’t warm enough for me to drink. => Đúng

Homework is very easy. He can do it.

=> Homework is easy enough for him to do it. => Sai
