Today, schools in several countries are considering the question of whether subjects like music and arts should be among those in the curriculum. For many people, a good knowledge of music and arts is regarded as a necessity for anyone who wants to be truly educated. Some say that students who are good at music and arts actually do better in more academic subjects like maths and science. However, some people see music and arts as an unimportant part of education since they don’t prepare students for a life of work.

Ngày nay, các trường học ở một số quốc gia đang xem xét việc các môn học như Âm nhạc và Nghệ thuật có nên đưa vào chương trình giáo dục hay không. Đối với nhiều người, kiến thức âm nhạc và nghệ thuật được xem như một điều cần thiết cho bất cứ ai muốn có được một nền giáo dục thực sự. Một số khác nói rằng những học sinh giỏi về âm nhạc hay nghệ thuật thực ra học các môn học có tính hàn lâm như Toán hay Khoa học tốt hơn. Tuy vậy, một số người cho rằng âm nhạc và nghệ thuật không phải là một phần quan trọng của giáo dục bởi vì chúng không tạo nền tảng cho công việc của học sinh sau này.

Do you think music and arts should be compulsory subjects at schools in Vietnam? Why or why not?(Bạn có nghĩ rằng âm nhạc và nghệ thuật nên là môn học bắt buộc ở trường học tại Việt Nam? Tại sao có hoặc tại sao không?)

I think kinds of subjects like Arts and Music should be optional subjects rather than compulsory ones. There are two main reasons. First, everyone has their own hobbies. Some students are interested in solving math problems, some like play sports, others prefer work with musical instrument. If people like doing something, they have to manage their time to pursue their hobbies. If they don't, it makes nonsense to force them to do things they are not really fond of. Second, having knowledge about arts and music is good, but only people tending to be a artist would concentrate deeply on arts. The normal student should be provided with some basic art and music knowledge so from this basement they can find and develop  their own favors.

Tớ nghĩ những môn như Mỹ thuật và Âm nhạc nên là môn học tự học hơn là môn bắt buộc. Có hai lý do như này. Đầu tiên, mỗi người đều có sở thích khác biệt. Một số học sinh thích giải toán, số khác lại thích chơi thể thao, người khác lại chuộng nhạc cụ hơn. Nếu đã thích thì cậu sẽ tìm được thời gian để theo đuổi sở thích của mình. Còn nếu không, chẳng có lý gì để bắt mọi người làm điều họ không hứng thú cả. Thứ hai, hiểu biết về mỹ thuật và âm nhạc cũng tốt đấy, nhưng chỉ là khi cậu muốn trở thành nghệ sĩ đi sâu vào nghệ thuật. Những học sinh bình thường nên được dạy những điều cơ bản về mỹ thuật và âm nhạc để từ đó các bạn ấy có thể tìm và phát triển sở thích của mình.

In my opinion, arts and music should be compulsory only in primary and secondary school; after enrolling in high school, students are no longer forced to study these subjects. The main reason is the different study curriculum between school level. High school students have to study more subjects and prepare for the Graduation Exam, thus they don’t have as much time to spend on arts and music as lower-level student. In addition, our brain is said to have better ability to obtain music and arts since our early age. As we have studied arts early, it can be the ground for us in the future skills.

Theo tớ thì mỹ thuật và âm nhạc nên được chọn là môn bắt buộc ở trường tiểu học và cấp 2. Còn sau khi lên cấp ba, học sinh không bị buộc phải học những môn này. Lý do chính là chương trình học khác biệt giữa các cấp học. Học sinh trung học phải học nhiều môn hơn và chuẩn bị cho kỳ thi Tốt nghiệp, các em không có nhiều thời gian cho mỹ thuật và âm nhạc như các em cấp dưới. Ngoài ra, bộ não có khả năng tiếp thu âm nhạc và mỹ thuật tốt hơn khi ta còn nhỏ. Khi được học mĩ thuật sớm, nó có thể trở thành nền tảng cho các khả năng tương lai

1. Music: It helps me relax after work.

2. Dancing: It makes me feel free and relaxed after a hard day.

3. Singing: It helps me to release stress after working or studying for a long time.

4. Painting: It doesn't help me so much in life. I seldom have to use this ability.

5. Photography: It's a joyful entertainment but it doesn't have important roles in my life.
