II. GRAMMAR (Ngữ pháp)

Exercise 1: Choose the appropriate prepositions. (Chọn giới từ thích hợp.)

1. Luckily, you are in/on time for the meeting. 

=> Luckily, you are on time for the meeting.(May mắn thay, bạn đến kịp cuộc họp.)

Giải thích: on time: vừa kịp lúc

               in time: đúng giờ và đến trước hơn 1 chút

2. Many people are dying of/by various types of cancer.

=> Many people are dying of various types of cancer.(Nhiều người đang chết dần vì các loại ung thư khác nhau.)

Giải thích: die of (chết vì...)

3. I will not be here next week. I am going to be on/inbusiness in Mexico.

=> I will not be here next week. I am going to be on business in Mexico. (Tôi sẽ không có mặt ở đây vào tuần tới. Tôi sẽ đi công tác ở Mexico.)

Giải thích: on business (đi công tác)

4. At/Inthe end of the book, they get married and live happily ever after.

=> At the end of the book, they get married and live happily ever after. (Cuối truyện, họ lấy nhau và sống hạnh phúc mãi mãi.)

Giải thích: at the end: tại thời điểm mà nó kết thúc

               in the end: kết quả của ...

5. Thank you for everything you’ve done. You are a true friend of/to me.

=> Thank you for everything you’ve done. You are a true friend to me. ( Cảm ơn vì tất cả những gì bạn đã làm. Bạn thực sự là 1 người bạn tốt đối với mình.)

Giải thích: a true friend to sb: 1 người bạn tốt đối với ai đó.

6. I can’t believe in/to you. You always let me down.

=> I can’t believe to you. You always let me down. (Tôi không thể tin bạn được nữa, bạn luôn làm tôi thất vọng.)

Giải thích: believe in sb: tin tưởng vào khả năng của ai

               believe to sb: tin ai...

7. I have warned you on/about the difficulties you have to face when applying for the job.

=> I have warned you about the difficulties you have to face when applying for the job. (Tôi đã cảnh báo bạn về những khó khăn bạn phải đối mặt khi xin việc.)

Giải thích: warn sb about: cảnh báo cho ai về ...

8. Britney Spears is famous by/for her beautiful face and sweet voice.

=> Britney Spears is famous for her beautiful face and sweet voice. (Britney Spears nổi tiếng vì khuôn mặt xinh đẹp và giọng hát ngọt ngào.)

Giải thích: famous for sth/V-ing: nổi tiêng vì cái gì

9. The bookshop is among/betweenthe chemist’s and the butcher's and across/opposite the library.

=> The bookshop is between the chemist’s and the butcher's and opposite the library. (Hiệu sách nằm ở giữa tiệm hóa dược phẩm và tiệm thịt, đối diện với thư viện.)

Giải thích: between: ở giữa (2 cái)

                among: nằm trong số nhiều cái

                opposite đối diện

                across: băng qua

10. Next year, I am going to set married to/with John and we are going to move to Bristol.

=> Next year, I am going to get married with John and we are going to move to Bristol. (Năm tới tôi sẽ kết hôn John và chúng tôi sẽ chuyển đến Bristol.)

Giải thích: cụm từ get married with sb: kết hôn

Exercise 2: Put a / an / the or ∅  in each space to complete the following sentences. (Điền a/an /the hoặc không từ nào vào mỗi chỗ trống để hoàn thành những câu sau.)

1. We went by……………….train to the west of England.

=> We went by train to the west of England. (Chúng tôi đi bằng tàu tới hướng tới phía tây nước Anh.)

Go by train: đi bằng tàu

2. …………..people who live in ………….Scotland are called………..Scots.

=> People who live in Scotland are called Scots. (Người sống ở Scotland được gọi là Scots.

Không cần dùng mạo từ trước họ tên.

3. ………….Columbus was one of………….first people to cross……….Atlantic.

=> Columbus was one of the first people to cross Atlantic.( Columbus là một trong những người đầu tiên phải vượt qua Đại tây dương.)

The first ... và the the Atlantics

4. Davis learned to play………….. violin when he was at……..university.

=> Davis learned to play the violin when he was at university. (Davis học chơi violin khi anh ấy học đại học.)

Cụm từ play the piano: chơi đàn piano

            at university: ở trường đại học

5. Did you read………….. book I lent you…………..last week?

=> Did you read the book I lent you last week? (Bạn đã đọc cuốn sách tôi đã cho bạn mượn tuần trước chưa?)

The book vì quyển sách đã xác định rồi

6. Is that ………… present Bill gave you for……….Christmas?

=> Is that the present Bill gave you for Christmas? (Có phải đây là món quà mà Bill đã đưa cho bạn trong ngày Giáng sinh không?)

The present vì món quà đã xác định rồi (cả 2 đều biết)

7. …….. computer has already changed………….our lives dramatically.

=>The computer has already changed our lives dramatically. (Máy vi tính đã thay đổi cuộc sống của chúng tôi rất nhiều.)

The computer đã được xác định

8. there was……….. accident yesterday at ………corner of……….street.

=> there was an accident yesterday at the corner of the street. (Có vụ tai nạn ngày hôm qua tại cuối con đường)

accident chưa được xác định nên phải dùng an

corner và street đã được xác định rồi

9. I need ………….time to think about ……..offer you gave me.

=> I need time to think about the offer you gave me. (Tôi cần thời gian để suy nghĩ về lời đề nghị của bạn)

The offer đã xác định rồi

10. …………..little knowledge  is……….dangerous thing.

=> A little knowledge  is a dangerous thing. (Thiếu hiểu biết là điều nguy hiểm. )
